"THRILLER vs. PURPLE RAIN"
I don’t know where to begin. This is by hardest the most controversial debate in the music industry. Thriller fans will tell you that this remains the best selling album of all times…..110 million copies sold worldwide. They’ll add that “Beat It” was the greatest song ever and that in 1983, everyone back then were glued to their TV’s to watch the 14 minute Thriller video.
Then you have the Purple Rain fans who will argue that this album was just pure genius, where Prince not only wrote all of the songs, but sang lead and played a whole ton of instruments on this album. From “When Doves Cry” and “The Beautiful Ones” to the self titled “Purple Rain”, this album was and still is considered one of the greatest albums of all times. Oh, and we can’t forget the Purple Rain movie. But all in all, both albums reflect the talent of two great artists where both will be remembered as timeless masterpieces.
